For the first time in Formula 1 history, a Grand Prix runs under one country's name on another country's circuit. The Bahrain race was cancelled in April, and Formula 1 brought it back to the calendar at the legendary Sepang — the first race in Malaysia in nine years.

Circuit — 5.543 km, 15 corners, 56 laps. Two parallel straights of almost a kilometre each, joined by a hairpin — the best overtaking zone in Asia. A wide track, fast sequences of corners and open sectors: drivers rate Sepang among the finest circuits in the championship.

Character — The tropical climate makes the race unpredictable: a downpour can arrive within minutes and team strategy changes on the fly. Sepang has hosted some of the most dramatic races in Formula 1.

Schedule — Friday: practice. Saturday: practice and qualifying. Sunday: Grand Prix.

Getting there — The circuit is next to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), 10 minutes by car. The city centre is 45 minutes away. Visa-free entry for citizens of most countries.

The city — Kuala Lumpur: the Petronas Towers, Bukit Bintang, and a food scene rated among the best in Asia. Sepang sits between the city and the coast.

Weather — 30–33 °C, high humidity, afternoon thunderstorms likely.

Triple-header — Sepang falls between Baku (26 September) and Singapore (11 October): three Grands Prix in three consecutive weeks.
